As I watch our American election process start to get into a fever pitch with the candidates getting close enough to the end to begin to see the finish line, I’m hearing a lot of talk about integrity. When you think about this it makes all the sense in the world. If we watch the news everyday it seems like there is always something reported that may cause worry and stress. The further we get from age 30, the more likely we are to see some weakening of our metabolism and a slowing of the function of those glands that are associated with metabolism such as thyroid and adrenal, as well as those glands involved in maintaining normal hormone levels in both men and women. Dr. Griffith, Distributor Cathy Griffith and I went out to Anaheim, California to attend the 2008 Natural Products Expo. The Natural Products Expo West is the largest natural and organic trade show with literally thousands of new products and cutting-edge trends. There were more than 2,800 exhibitors, many with samples of new products and we tried many of them.

At one point we ran into a former student and colleague of Dr. Griffith from Bastyr University, a well known naturopathic doctor and prolific writer on nutrition and natural health, Michael T. Murray (pictured below right with Dr. Griffith) who was at the convention promoting his new book “Hunger Free Forever: The New Science of Appetite Control” co-written with Michael R. Lyon. Dr. Griffith got an autographed copy of the book and had it read by the end of the weekend saying it is filled with a lot of very interesting concepts and highly recommends it.

Now our real purpose going there is to look at the competition in supplements. We get to see everything from manufacturing techniques to labeling to innovative formula designs. It’s also an opportunity to see what’s on the cutting edge. These types of conventions are some of the ways we discover new products and better ways to run the business. But the Natural Products Expo only deals partly in supplements. The other part is food products. Yes, we were there for the supplements, but we spent some time wandering through the food part too. There was a booth hosted by Kettle brand potato chips where you could mix and name your own flavor of potato chips using a variety of different flavored seasonings. There was every variety of protein bar either on the market or coming to the market. I took home at least 20 bars of everything from soy to hemp. I ate the hemp one this morning and so far I haven’t grown my hair out or hitchhiked across the country (day’s not over though). Anyway, we had a good time, got a lot of walking in, saw a lot of products and came away with some really exciting ideas for NouvelleHEALTH that you’re sure to see in the coming months and years.
